Description
I buy vintage linens at local estate auctions to pass them along to you, and recently found a great cache of linens and clothes that had been saved for decades. This is another piece of boys wear from the 1950s, a brown corduroy cap. It's not marked for maker or size. It looks like a deerstalker Sherlock Holmes hat: it has a round top with a button on the top. In front there's a brim or bill that is stiffened to hold its shape and covered with the corduroy on both sides. The inside of the round crown is lined with tan rayon. There's a band for ear flaps all
around the sides and back, and the ear band is lined with tan felt, very soft. Best of all there is a brown leather (faux leather) band across the back - it has a buckle but it doesn't really do anything except look very cool. There's a snap on one ear flap and a brown grosgrain ribbon, but the ribbon does not have the other side of the snap.
measurements: 1" width of brim in front; ~11.5 from one edge over crown to other edge; ~21" around head; 2.5" length of ear flaps.
I washed this and found the fabric to be in sound condition. I found no holes, stains, spots, or funky odors. The reason I said these pieces were rare is that I find so many more girls' dresses than boys' wear! Nowadays this could be worn by either gender for a great 50s look. I'm also listing some shirts and a vest from the same family, so please check those too.
I am storing this in my smoke-free home. Please contact me for more information or photos. I am happy to combine items to save on shipping, so check my other listings too. Thanks for looking!
